Following the member Mentorship Training workshop held in Shepparton earlier in August, NHIA is developing an ongoing support program for members undertaking workplace and industry mentor schemes.

Made possible with the support of Gardiner Foundation, the workshop was attended by 17 member representatives, a Gardiner Foundation representative and NHIA staff.

The highly practical workshop provided an overview of the essential steps required in the design and implementation of workplace and industry mentor programs.

Role playing and feedback sessions during the day gave all participants the opportunity to work in small groups as mentor, mentee, and observer before drilling down into the detail of what makes successful mentorship programs both for the individuals involved and their respective organisations.

Feedback received from attendees included, “it was a pleasure to be part of such a positive environment” and “what an incredibly interactive high-level experience”

NHIA CEO, Sara Merckel, says: “Member feedback to the workshop, facilitated by Jennifer Campbell from the TTW Institute, was universally positive. It was a very full day, with members taking a lot of learnings away with them.

“It presents NHIA and member organisations with a real opportunity to develop an industry specific mentoring program framework, with ongoing support and assistance provided to the initial course attendees. We would ideally like to run a second mentoring workshop early next year to enable more members to take advantage of the program we are putting in place,” says Sara.

The NHIA mentor program is being designed to support member businesses that foster a workplace culture of mentorship and support, and will include online follow up sessions with Mentors, advice and guidance tailored to individual member needs and access to tools and resources. Further information will be sent to participants soon. The next step will showcase the success of inhouse mentorship within a business.
